Changing performance options

If you want you XP to perform faster rather than look Sexy than you should follow these steps. It’s another way to increase your system performance. Following these steps might reduce you XP visual appearance significantly. But you have to sacrifice something in order to achieve the increased performance.

(i) Right-click on My Computer -> select Properties

(ii) Click the Advanced tab and click Settings under the Performance section.

(iii) Click the Visual Effects tab

(iv) Click the Custom radio button

(v) Manually check and uncheck the various boxes listed below for each of the different effects

Uncheck the following:

Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing Fade or slide menus into view (for old PC) Fade or slide Tool Tips into view: Fade out menu items after clicking Show shadows under menus: Show translucent selection rectangle: Show window contents while dragging: Smooth edges of screen fonts Use background image for each folder type: Use visual styles on windows and buttons (using this Option will change your display to windows 2000 if you like XP interface then don’t uncheck this. But remember that disabling this option will increase your system performance significantly)

Choosing a Selective Startup option

During a boot process computer will load every devices and services. This will increase your boot time consequently decreasing your computer performance. In order to decrease your boot time follow these simple steps

Click Start → Run → Type msconfig and than click on General tab

Than choose the Selective Startup radio button. Click Apply. Then computer will ask you for a reboot. Confirm it and you are done.
