Protecting Your Video Camera – Easy To Follow Guidelines
Modern day electronic equipment such as video cameras are much more efficient and reliable and perform much better than cameras produced even 5 years ago. In past years, consumers of electronic equipment almost expected their purchases to last but a few years as it was all too common for items to need repair or replacement soon after warranties expired. Now, however, people believe that electronic purchases should last for much longer due to advances in technology.
If you want your expensive new video camera to last, it is imperative that you follow the points below to make sure that you are taking suitable care of your equipment, and thus extending its lifetime.
Keep your equipment clean – It is vital, especially with regards to camera lenses and LCD screens, that you keep the video camera clean. Foreign objects such as dirt and dust can cause havoc with electronic equipment if allowed to enter the casing of the camera, and dirt on a lens can cause permanent damage such as scratches if not cleaned. Glass cleaning cloths, available from camera shops and optometrists are great for cleaning lenses and LCD screens, and are much cheaper than a replacement lens!
Avoid misuse – Always avoid using the camera near water or when it is raining unless it is either waterproof or you have a waterproof casing; if water comes into contact with the electronic systems inside a camera, you could be saying goodbye to a large sum of money in repairs, if repair is even possible. Do not subject the camera to violent knocks; dropping the camera or using it for means which it was not designed will almost certainly damage it, again, resulting is a large repair bill.
Batteries – Most video cameras nowadays typically come with lithium ion rechargeable batteries which have a lifetime of around 500 cycles. This means that after 500 full recharges, a drop in performance will ensue and you will have to replace the batteries. Also, if you will not be using the camera for an extended period of time, remove the batteries as they could leak and damage the camera.
As stated above, it is important to ensure that you take appropriate care when using your video camera and keep it in good condition at all times; failing to do so can reduce the quality of videos and, more importantly, its lifetime, dramatically.
