Plastic surgery is a way of correcting or restoration of form and function of particular part of the body. Plastic Surgeon performs this operation for body modification and reconstruction of the part of body. The word Plastic here is not concerned with the plastic that we use in our daily life (also known as synthetic polymer). Plastic is derived from Greek word Plastikos which means shape or mold.

History of Plastic Surgery can be dated back to 2000 BC when Indian plastic Surgeon were performing this operation is a very minor level. Then British Plastic Surgeon studied this technique and the process of Plastic surgery spread throughout the word in time. John Peter Mettauer was the first American Plastic Surgeon who performed the first Cleft Palate surgery with instrument designed by him.

After the success of John Peter Mettauer, plastic surgery in United States got a remarkable upliftment. During 20^th century the popularity of Plastic surgery grew very large. Vilray Blair was the main man working as a plastic surgeon in Washington University. He treated the wounded soldiers of First World War and performed complex maxillofacial surgery.

Plastic surgery involves the transfer of skin tissue from one part of the body to other. Plastic surgeon might take this from the donor or from the patient. If the tissue is taken from the patient than its called Autografts, if taken from donor of same species it’s called Allografts and Xenografts is the process of taking tissue from different species. Plastic surgeons are very careful while choosing the donor so that the chance or rejection is limited.
