Movie review: the Illusionist

The Illusionist is a 2006 release drama movie directed by Neil Burger. This movie is about a magician Eisenheim who is in a mission to get his love. The Illusionist was first released at 2006 Sundance Film Festival.

Now, let’s talk about the story of the movie. Eisenheim was born in Austria – Hungary and a son of a cabinet maker. During his childhood he meets a traveling magician who performs various tricks in front of him. Eisenheim becomes obsessed with magic after this. In the mean time he falls in love with Sophie (Duchess von Teschen) who is above his social class. They start to meet each other very often in their secret hideout chamber. Eisenheim is planning to go to chin to learn magic tricks and Sophie want to go with him. The day they plan to leave, police come looking for Sophie and they are separated. After 15 years Eisenheim returns to Austria to perform his magic tricks and to get his childhood lover back. To get his lover back he faces the Crown Prince who is engaged with Sophie. The movie revolves around this scenario.

This movie is produce with a budget of $17 million. It has already earned $44 million and counting. Taking about the review, this movie received mostly a positive one. Rotten Tomatoes rated this movie 7.5 out of 10. Rotten Tomatoes reviewed this movie as a fresh one with a good story. This movie was also nominated in Academy Award for Best Cinematography.

This is a really good movie. It has drama, excitement, surprise and some shocking truth in the end. I would say you have to watch this movie.
